Assembly
Follow these steps to assemble the scooter:
Start by loosening the two screws slightly to remove the steering rod, This will allow the handlebar to come free for adjustment.
There is a metal edge at the top of the handlebar. Make sure the handlebar rests on this edge when positioning it. Since the handlebar is movable, take care to align it properly.
Once aligned, reinsert the top bolt and screw it in to secure the handlebar. Ensure the bolt is tightened enough to prevent the handlebar from moving.
Lift the display to your preferred height. Two screws allow you to secure the display in place. Be cautious not to overtighten the screws near the plastic part of the display. As soon as you feel resistance, stop tightening to avoid damage.
Now, the scooter is assembled and ready to ride.
Design
The e-scooter impresses with a solid, rugged design that immediately catches the eye. Its frame is crafted from aluminum alloy, giving it a lightweight yet sturdy feel. The scooter is primarily black, with striking orange accents, particularly noticeable around the front and rear suspension, giving it a sporty, off-road-ready aesthetic.
The front and rear suspension arms appear durable and well-constructed with a more premium feel.
The deck is subtly designed, featuring a rubberized, non-slip surface in the middle and a slightly elevated rear for added foot grip and comfort.
The handlebar stands out with the company’s logo prominently displayed. However, the orange-colored cables around the handlebar create a bit of visual clutter. The cables are somewhat chaotic but neatly bundled with spiral wraps. This gives the front area a somewhat messy look.
While there are several visible cables, especially near the front suspension and the braking system, they are generally well-managed and secured.
Most cables are routed into the housing, giving a tidy look. The scooter has an IPX5 rating for water resistance, with the charging port being well-protected from splashes.
One unique design element is the front fender or rather the lack of a traditional one. The front suspension arm serves as the fender, widened by two plastic elements to improve its functionality.
The rear fender is only attached on one side, but the mount is stable enough to prevent rattling, adding to the scooter’s sporty look. However, the rear fender is quite short, meaning it may not fully prevent dirt from reaching the suspension.
Overall, the scooter design feels sturdy and well-thought-out, with minor areas for improvement, particularly around cable management and the foldable mechanism. The scooter features a sporty and functional look, ideal for off-road.
Performance
The Joyor S5 electric scooter delivers a solid performance, particularly when tackling various inclines and distance tests. On a 10% slope, it accelerates steadily but lacks strong initial thrust, reaching 14.3 mph before slowing to about 6.2 mph as the gradient increases.
The discrepancy between the display and GPS readings, with the GPS showing 6.2 mph compared to 8.7 mph on the display, highlights a minor issue in speed accuracy.
However, on steeper slopes, the S5 outperforms expectations. It manages to climb a 20% gradient, though it slows to around 3.1-3.7 mph, which is still a significant achievement for this category, especially when compared to similar scooters like the Joyor Y8-S, which struggles on such steep terrain.
The scooter’s acceleration on flat ground is decent, reaching 14.3 mph in 6.45 seconds, and it covers 0.62 miles in 18.209 seconds. However, below 6.2 mph, its acceleration is sluggish, which affects its responsiveness at lower speeds.
Braking performance is strong, thanks to dual disc brakes, providing smooth and effective stopping power, even on slopes. That said, one notable drawback is the scooter’s slower recovery time after braking, particularly downhill, where it takes longer to regain speed.
In terms of range, it impresses, covering 19.6 miles on a single charge, with its energy management being particularly efficient towards the end of the test.
Despite the battery running low, the scooter maintained solid performance, though the final drop in speed was noticeable. The S5’s battery efficiency is proportional to its size, covering exactly half the distance of the Y8-S, which has a battery twice as large.
Overall, the e-scooter stands out for its ability to handle steep inclines and offers a reliable range, although its lagging low-speed acceleration and slower speed recovery after braking are areas for improvement.

Final Verdict
The Jojo S5 electric scooter combines a rugged design with solid performance. Its lightweight aluminum frame, accented by sporty orange details, gives it an off-road-ready aesthetic. Both the front and rear suspension feel premium, providing good stability on rough terrain. The non-slip deck ensures comfort, while the IPX5 water resistance rating protects key components like the charging port.
A minor downside is the somewhat cluttered cable arrangement around the handlebar, although most cables are neatly routed. The short rear fender may also allow some dirt to reach the suspension. Performance-wise, the S5 stands out for its hill-climbing ability, handling steep inclines up to 20%, and it covers 19.6 miles per charge. Its acceleration is slower at low speeds, but the dual disc brakes provide smooth and effective stopping power.
Overall, the scooter offers a sturdy, functional design and excels in handling both city and off-road environments, with only a few areas for improvement.
